Winterize your chicken coop early. when the leaves start changing and that chill starts cooling the night air is the best time to start planning to winterize your chicken coop. obviously, how well your chickens will do depend on several factors right out of the gate.. I think we can all agree, an automatic chicken coop door will make our lives so much easier. no more freezing cold dawn runs to the coop to let them out. an end to jumping out a cozy chair late at night because we’ve forgotten to lock the flock up..
If you want to prevent your chicken’s water through freezing over in winter, you may need to change the vessel you choose to serve the water in. plastic troughs are best, as i mentioned earlier, it conducts colder temperatures less easily than metal. larger surface areas take longer to freeze over compared to smaller ones..
